Denali Training session is over tomorrow

5/5/2015

Lucky enough, back from Aconcagua, I met Frank Parisien who got me in the PowerWatts training program 2x a week. I really improved the power in my legs, by almost 10% and thanks to folks at Allez Up, i got a big core and cross training program to combine with PowerWatts to be in the best shape possible.

Tomorrow is my last session at PowerWatts before leaving, Today was my last at AllezUp.  Last sunday, I did a Tire pull session with 99 lbs and felt strong. I think I couldn't be in better shape. I did recover all the weight lost from Aconcagua and put in an extra 10lbs of body weight to have enough energy to climb up.

Aconcagua...

Well, it doesn't always go as planned... after a great start, I got stomach sick on the 2nd night of the trek to base camp.
certainly not the best timing to get sick. Even after taking an extra recovery day while the team was doing their first carry to camp 1, I've decided after 3 days, to call the helicopter and evacuate the mountain. Tough call to make but probably the smart one as I was getting weaker and weaker and I lost 6 pounds in 3 days.

Already back home. Thinking about it, it was probably just a too busy schedule to climb almost back to back Carstenz, Vinson and Aconcagua. Got on the mountain very tired from the holidays and the start of the year at work.    Lesson learn for next time.

and by the way, next time it's Denali, in May 2015.
got an intense training plan built up for that until May 6th. and a full week of rest before leaving.

Aconcagua, it's a start

After a very tiring trip Carstenz and an amazing expedition to Vinson, the holiday season was great to get some rest. But last week was exhausting, trying to keep up with work and finalize my bags for Aconcagua.

Been running all week, including today to get all my things together and make sure I don’t forget my climbing smurf nor my Gummy bears.

This is my 5th of the 7 summits and probably the one I fear the most only because of the altitude. It’s going to be a comeback for me, 7 years after trying to go almost as high on Ojos Del Salado. At the time, I was young, dumb and unprepared for high altitude. Guess what, got Altitude sickness just over 6200M and it was over for me. Aconcagua is the test for me to determine whether or not I sign for Everest 2016

Thanks again to everyone following me and supporting me in this crazy adventure. I couldn’t do it without you all.

I have a flight to catch, Argentina is waiting for me
See you all soon

Sitting alone at the gate of the Montreal airport, I had the feeling this is now true, that this 7 summits quest is started. Flight was great, now in Africa, met with all the other International mountain guides - IMG -(http://www.mountainguides.com) client and Jenni, our guide.

I'll be doing all my trips with IMG. Why IMG ? After reading many reviews on multiple agencies I think IMG as a lot to offer. And frankly, since my first contact with someone at IMG's, they are amazing on customer service, pre-trip communications and making sure you feel comfortable with all the logistic.

Tired but happy to be here. Will update as long as I can fin wi-fi
